PRECISION REHAB PROVIDES EDEN WITH THE POWERCHAIR OF HER DREAMS.
21 year old Eden King from Thetford is enjoying a new sense of freedom and independence since taking delivery of a Paravan Piccolino powerchair which was supplied by leading powerchair specialists Precision Rehab.
Eden has the congenital condition Ulrich Muscular Dystrophy which affects every muscle in her body resulting in her getting weaker and weaker and has meant she has been a powerchair user since the age of three. However, despite this, Eden runs two successful businesses and lives as independently as possible.
Eden has known Precision Rehab’s founder Matthew James for some time as he has often helped when her previous powerchair needed a repair or service and she was unable to get anyone to help from her original supplier.
“When my previous chair broke down again, I was told the supplier would not be able to come and resolve the problem for two weeks so I put out a cry for help on social media and once again Matt was on my doorstep within 24 hours. Over the years, Matt has often come to my rescue and I decided there and then that he would be supplying my next powerchair as long as he had one which would meet my requirements”
Eden explained to Matt that she had been looking for a new chair for a while and following a detailed assessment Matt recommended the Paravan Piccolino. Eden’s condition meant she had a custom seating system in her previous chair and this would need to be transferred to her new Piccolino. Matt said this could be done on delivery as it has become a more common request from clients with specific seating systems and he had completed similar transfers for many clients over the years.
In addition to installing Eden’s seating system, the new bespoke chair features an electric headrest which allows Eden to independently move the headrest back and forth to adjust her head – something carers or family have previously had to do many times a day. Specialist controls include a mini micro pilot joystick with an Omni2 special control module fitted into a custom box which is mounted at the back of the chair and has a built-in charger point. Further bespoke features include custom mounting on the armrest for Eden’s adjustable ventilator straw, custom matt black wheel centres, a REAC seat lift motor and Dahl docking system for when Eden is travelling by car. It is custom painted with a Bentley rose gold matt paint finish.
Matt delivered Eden’s new chair in September and Eden loves it. “The Piccolino is just amazing and Matt and the team at Precision Rehab are an absolute dream to work with. I love the automatic head rest adjustment as I can now reposition without assistance and the seat slide function is great as it enables me to access tables by just sliding forwards. The mini joy stick is brilliant as it requires almost no pressure – it is almost like magic and makes the chair incredibly easy to control and drive”
The delivery was completed by Matt and his colleague Mike Booker, working as a team to transfer the seating system from Eden’s old chair to her new Paravan Piccolino which included making adjustments to the electric headrest, micro pilot joystick including the Omni display. They also made many changes to the programming to allow Eden to use the chair more independently without having to ask for assistance which included programming the chair to automatically revert to the main menu after 3 seconds when the chair is not being used allowing Eden to then select drive, seat functions or lighting using joystick commands.
